Here are the pictures from our family garden planting from this past Saturday. The girls really enjoyed themselves and we all got quite dirty from it. Our bathtub looked like we had tried to plant a garden in it! Mike and I were both super sore Sunday morning but it was worth it. I've never seen Mike take so much interest in planting before but he did a lot of work on this little flower garden. We are all taking pride in it. Even the girls do! Katelyn asks every day to "see our garden".
This is what the ground looked like before we worked the dirt, added more soil and..ahem...cow manure fertilizer. There used to be a huge Forsythia bush in this spot but Mike dug it out.
This is the finished product!! We were over zealous with the bark mulch but that will tamp down and thin out after awhile. The flowers hanging towards the back are Petunias.
This is our trellis with our two climbing plants. The one on the left is called Madevilla. It's a gorgeous flowering, climbing plant that will (hopefully) produce large bright red flowers. The smaller one on the right is a climbing, Don Juan rose bush that should also (hopefully) produce bright, red, fragrant roses.
The flowers in the hanging baskets are Geraniums and the purple flowers are purple Salvia. I tried to choose flowers with colors and height that would "pop" from the street as people drove by. I also chose, flowers and bushes that were hardy and liked full sun since this area is always in the sun.
These are Weigela Florida Pink Poppet bushes. They will get bigger and produce light, pink flower
These are Coreopsis and attract butterflies, which we've already seen.
There you have it! I will most likely plant a few more flowers to round it out. As soon as everything starts growing I'll post more pictures. I can't wait for my climbing plants to start blooming and growing.
